Crowdfunding is usually associated with consumer products such as smart watches and drones, but XTI Aircraft Company in Denver, Colorado is hoping a double premiere with his Trifan 600. Inclined first commercially certified high-speed, long-range vertical takeoff and landing (score VTOL) aircraft that combines the vertical lift capability of a helicopter with the speed of an aircraft, it is to launch an equity crowdfunding campaign in the wake of the ratification by the US Securities and Exchange Commission rules, the first major aviation project.

In the development of two years, Trifan is running 600 as a six-seater, fixed-wing, composite construction, fly-by-wire flight both with VTOL capabilities and the speed and range of a conventional business jets. It would carry a pilot and five passengers at a cruising speed of 340 knots (400 mph 644 km / h) and have a ceiling of 30,000 ft (9,000 m). Its two high-performance turbo engines give a range from 800 to 1200 miles (1900 km until 1,300), depending on the departure procedures and payload.

In the meantime, three impeller behind a sliding hatch provide vertical lift. A plus point of the aircraft is that travel by eliminating the need to and from airports and passenger transport from door to door (or heliport-to-heliport), there would be competition even faster with conventional aircraft. The Trifan 600 will initially be aimed at business customers and is expected to cost from US $ 10 to 12 million $.

According to the company the Trifan has 600 a variety of interior fitouts, ranging from luxury business seats to medical evacuation or air ambulatory configurations.

On Tuesday XTI Aircraft announced an equity crowdfunding campaign that referred to the company as the "first fundraiser of its kind in the history of aviation." Based on new rules approved by the US Securities and Exchange Commission to buy a stake in the company financiers. The campaign is part of a larger fundraising campaign, which is also looking at venture capital to attract private equity and high net worth investors.

The new company has a number of high-power officers, including Vice Chairman Jeffrey Pino, who is the former president and chief executive of Sikorsky Aircraft, a board member Charlie Johnson, who is the former president of Cessna Aircraft Company, and chief engineer and board member Dennis Olcott who served as chief engineer for Adam Aircraft and the PiperJet program.

If the fundraiser is successful, the company wants the first proof of concept prototype completed in two-and-a-half years will receive one or two prototypes for further testing and FAA certification prior to construction.

"We see equity crowdfunding as a creative way, every true work together stakeholders to include the all new way of flying pioneer," says Brody. "It's a way to get all our supporters in potential shareholders, by the general public a once-in-a-lifetime chance at an early stage something truly revolutionary to the order."
